OUR MISSION

LINKS
To promote through our work the philosophy of a better world through kindness and caring.
To assist in the transport of animals from life-threatening or homeless situations to reputable rescue groups, Humane Societies or SPCA's in Canada and the United States.
To foster and adopt to approved homes the animals we rescue with the understanding that if, for any reason during the lifspan of that animal, the adoptive family can no longer care for it, Dog Speed Rescue & Transport Society will accept the animal back into our care.
To obtain all necessary veterinary care, training and assistance as needed for any animal that we accept into our care.
To practice a no-kill policy with the exception that we will only consider euthanasia for an animal in the case of extreme injury/illness which is painful and terminal in nature.
To offer our services to any government or agency for the rescue and care of animals during an emergency or disaster.
To continue the pursuit of training and education in the care and rescue of animals and in the cause of the humane treatment of animals.
Dog Speed Animal Rescue & Transport Society is a Canadian Not-for-profit Registered Charity, Registration # 81231 9291 RR 0001
COSTS OF HAVING A PET
Having a pet is more expensive than many people initially realize. The initial cost of the animal, veterinary costs, flea & tick control, food, equipment (bowls, bed, collars, leashes, toys, etc.), training, grooming, ID tags, annual city license and, when they pass away, the cost of cremation or burial) all add up. Before adopting, check out this link to a report by The Simple Dollar that details the realistic costs of adding a pet to your family: http://www.thesimpledollar.com/pet-cost-calculator/
Need Help Finding a
Pet-friendly Apt?
Sometimes pet parents have to give up their pets when circumstances change in their lives. Separation, divorce, new job requiring a move elsewhere - these are some common reasons. Instead of giving up your pet, check out Zumper, a site that helps you find pet-friendly rentals. Just key in the city or town you are seeking a new place in, and let them help you find somewhere to rent where you can take your pets with you!

Make A Pet Will
If anything happened to you, what would happen to your pets?
Thousands of pets are orphaned each year due to the death or disability of their human caregivers. Dog Speed would like to help reduce this type of situation by providing a guideline to help you plan for the future for your pet.
To help you plan ahead, check out our PET CARE INSTRUCTION FORM that includes Guidelines, Emergency Identification Wallet Card and our Emergency Contact Card.
BARN CAT ADOPTION PROGRAM
Own a barn, stable or farm? Check out the Caledon Animal Shelter's Barn Cat Adoption Program!
Barn cats keep the rodent population in check and out of your feed. It helps feral cats by providing them shelter and a food source. Its a win/win!
There are other barn cat programs out there - just google barn cat programs in your area to find one near you!
